Happy New Year, and welcome to the 31-Day Fresh Start Series! I want to spend the entire month of January helping you declutter and organize your home and create new habits so you have a simpler, greener 2012. Each day this month, I’ll post a new tip or challenge to help you streamline your home, schedule and lifestyle, which can not only cut down on the chaos of daily life, but will also help you live a simpler, more eco-friendly lifestyle with new habits that will save you money, time and sanity. I’ll be doing the Fresh Start right along with you, so feel free to leave me a comment or tweet me at any time with questions or comments or just to let me know how you’re doing!
Day 1: Goal Setting and Planning for the New Year
On this first day of our Fresh Start, spend some time today with a pen and paper writing down some goals you want to accomplish. These are not “New Year’s Resolutions”—they are values and activities you’d like to do in the coming months to improve your lifestyle. Do you want to declutter your home of excess possessions so you can find what you need when you need it and spend less time cleaning? Do you want to learn new green cleaning methods for more eco-friendly housekeeping? Do you want to streamline your schedule and your To-Do list so you can spend more time with your family, working on hobbies or starting that new exercise habit? Do you want to just stop the chaos and find a more peaceful lifestyle so you can finally breathe? Before you can begin changing habits, you have to know why you’re changing them and what you hope to accomplish.
“The secret of happiness, you see, is not found in seeking more, but in developing the capacity to enjoy less.” ~Socrates
Living simply can be challenging at first – you have to make some tough decisions about what means the most to you. Staying motivated to streamline can be difficult as well, particularly since we’re constantly surrounded by messages of “more is better.” Establishing your priorities and having a firm grasp of your goals will help you make the choices needed to simplify and achieve the Fresh Start you’re seeking.
Happy New Year! I'm excited to take this journey with you!

2 intelligent opinions. Add yours!:
bought a small day planner to carry (so no excuses about forgetting them or not writing them down), put my new habits (yes, not resolutions!) in the front - am ensuring that I work on the new habits each day by tracking them (what gets written down, gets done)
Today I've checked off walking the dogs, eating a healthy home made breakfast and writing one gratitude thought!
I'm following the Zen Habits program of working on one habit a month. This month is walking the dog each day aka exercise. Who knows? By the end of January, we may be running :).
